Google’s “What’s Happening” for restaurants

A simple way to show live promos and events on your Google Business Profile. This is very important for UK hospitality — it boosts visibility in Search and can lead to more orders. Promos show under the label “This week” in the info block people see when they Google a local business.

What it is

It’s a new slot near the top of your Google Business Profile. Use it to share timely updates like a lunch deal, live music, or bank holiday hours.

You can post inside Google, or link Instagram, Facebook, or X so updates sync in.

Why it matters

  • It’s visible. Sits high on your profile where people decide.
  • It’s timely. Nudge someone to book or order now.
  • It’s simple. Post in Google or sync from socials you already use.
  • It’s free to use.

Who it’s for (UK)

Everyone in UK hospitality who has set up their Google Business Profile — restaurants, takeaways, bakeries, pizza shops, cafés, pubs, hotels. If you appear in local search, this is for you.

Set up (about 10 minutes)

  1. Open your Business Profile. Search your brand on Google while signed in, or open your GBP dashboard.
  2. Post manually (fastest). Create a Post. Add a photo, short copy, dates if needed, and a clear call to action.
  3. Or link socials. In Edit profile → Contact → Social profiles, add Instagram, Facebook, or X so new posts can sync.
  4. Stay compliant. Follow Google’s content policies for text and images.

Tip: keep one offer per post. Short, specific, and current.

What to post

  • Today’s special or set menu
  • Happy hour times
  • Live music or events
  • Holiday opening hours
  • Seasonal offers

Add a good photo and one action (Order, Book, Call).

  • Track clicks. Add UTM tags.
  • Match pricing and stock. Keep the post in line with your live Slerp menu.
  • Use consistent images. Reuse your Slerp hero shots for a clean look.

Do’s and don’ts

  • Do: One clear message. One action.
  • Do: Add dates/times if it’s limited.
  • Do: Use a real photo of the dish or venue.
  • Don’t: Tease “something soon.” Say what it is.
